The cowboy boot

Workwear and myth

A practical boot that became a symbol of freedom and adventure.

The cowboy boot was shaped by work on horseback. Its tall shaft protects the leg, the smooth sole lets the foot slide easily into the stirrup, and the heel helps stop it slipping through. Pull straps at the top make the boot easier to put on.

Beyond the ranch, the boot became a cultural icon. Decorative stitching, contrasting leather, pointed toes and emphatic colours turned every pair into a personal statement. Fashion keeps returning to it: sometimes authentic, sometimes glamorous, sometimes playfully reimagined.
