The ankle boot

The versatile city boot

Just tall enough to be a boot, light enough for every day.

The ankle boot became a familiar part of women’s dress during the nineteenth century. Beneath long skirts it protected the foot and ankle from cold, mud and uneven streets. Laces, elastic panels or tiny buttons provided a close fit.

Today’s ankle boot can be severe, refined or rugged. A different toe, heel or material changes its character completely, while the compact shaft keeps it easy to combine. That is why it rarely disappears from fashion for long.
